Have you noticed that Ahrefs Keywords Explorer and Google Keyword Planner volumes do not match? If you have been using both Ahrefs and Google Ads to check the monthly volume of a keyword, you have then probably noticed that both of the tools end up showing different results.
So which software should you trust – Ahrefs or Google Keyword Planner?
THE ANSWER IS – BOTH!
And this is why…
Reason 1: Ahrefs and Google Keyword Planner calculate the monthly searches DIFFERENTLY
Google Keyword Planner gives you a ROUNDED ANNUAL AVERAGE while Ahrefs gives you the average depending on the month.
Less people google Christmas trees during the ”warm seasons”. However when Christmas comes, do expect for Ahrefs to change its volumes, while Google Keyword Planner will leave it similar to how it is right now.
Reason 2: Google Keyword Planner rounds synonyms and plurals.
Therefore, if you now check ”Christmas trees” (in plural on both softwares), you will see that volumes changed drastically on Ahrefs, but not on Google Keyword Planner.
And these are the two main reasons why Google Keyword Planner and Ahrefs show you different volumes.
So which SEO tool should I better use?
Well now it’s up to you to decide if you want to use Ahrefs, Google Keyword Planner or any other SEO tool.
However, we like to use Ahrefs if we want to run a campaign, during a specific month.
And for all the rest, we rely on our favourite Google Keyword Planner.
